Handball is virtually unheard of in the UK. In many other countries, their national players are household names. Jerome Fernandez was captain of the French national handball team and a bona-fide French superstar. He holds their record for the number of goals scored. In October last year, I spent a week in Vitrolles, on the outskirts of Marseille filming a young, local team on a losing streak. Jerome was brought in to coach them ahead of a game with their local rivals. With his help and with the cameras rolling, can the young players turn their fortunes around? Watch here to see what happened.
This was for a documentary series for the Olympic Channel and I hugely enjoyed working on it. The games were nail-bitingly exciting and Jerome and the players were fantastic to work with.
