Mountford Equestrian Filming

Last year was understandably quiet with Covid preventing most events happening. I was happy to be able to do some filming towards the end of the year for Polly Mountford. It was fascinating to watch her work with the horses and I’m happy with the footage I captured for her website background. Adamsrill Primary School

Every now and then I am asked to film promotional or informational videos for schools. Adamsrill is an inspiring school and I loved its atmosphere. The pupils were very well behaved and far more mature than I ever was at their age… maybe that says more about me than them though! I shot this in one very long day thanks to the organisation of the agency and the school. I write this from lockdown at home and very much look forward to be going out to work again when I’m able to.

Ernest Jones – Christmas Campaign

It felt odd filming a Christmas advert in August. Back in June I was asked to be DP for a series of short films for Ernest Jones’ Christmas campaign. These have just gone live on social media. It was a very busy two day shoot with a lot to pack in. This short edit is one of several that we shot but the others can be seen on the Ernest Jones social media accounts. Huge thanks to Beth Wightman of creative agency Beth Wightman Represents and director Dirk Spath.

Linley Workshop

Masterpiece London 2019 ended yesterday. I was pleased to have made four videos for Linley to promote their stand at the show. You may have seen the other three on my previous blog posts. This is the final one showing some of the pieces taking shape in the workshop. There’s always so much to film in these sorts of locations. Because of this, it’s always a long day but it’s fun to find new angles and compositions to shoot.

Velo Birmingham – Motorcycle Filming

17,000 cyclists. 100 miles. Seven hours on the back of a motorcycle. Several of those hours spent facing the wrong way.I loved my job in May filming the Velo Birmingham and Midlands event for rb-create. The team covered the event from all angles including some great aerial shots. It was sometimes a challenge filming from the back of the motorcycle especially when approaching corners at speed while filming facing backwards. The moto rider was very good at letting me know what was coming up over the headset so that helped a lot! The rb-create team put together this great edit.

Linley Design

Wendy Tytherleigh, head of design at Linley speaks about her inspirations for this years Masterpiece designs. It was incredible to film her at work sketching the botanical illustration for the furniture pieces. Trails of jasmine on a geometric background. It will be exciting to see the pieces taking shape in the workshop.

Masterpiece 2019 – Linley Interview

The second video I created for Linley in advance of Masterpiece 2019 was a discussion between the creative director and head of design. Shot on two cameras, they are discussing this years stand. It differs from previous years in that it’s more of an overall room concept than all about one or two headline pieces. I always love setting up shoots like this, lighting was key to the look of it. The only natural light was coming from a large skylight directly above the two subjects so I had to use additional lights to fill in their faces and the background whilst keeping the natural look. I’m pleased with how it turned out.

David Linley – Masterpiece 2019 Interview

For the past couple of years, I have been honoured to be asked by Linley to make a film for their stand at Masterpiece London. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Masterpiece, it is a fair that brings together all manner of masterpieces under one roof. It’s an eclectic mixture of paintings, sculptures, furniture, even boats and cars.

This year the brief was slightly different. The plan was to produce a series of short teaser films to be released one by one in advance of the show. This was the first one we created from an interview with founder David Linley, talking about design.

Sure – Make Your Move, Manchester City FC

Last but not least in the Make Your Move trilogy is Manchester City. In the spotlight this time were Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden & Danilo. Superior Striker Allan Russell ensured they were tested by the drills whilst supplying the usual banter with a smile. I was filming on my C300 mkii as well as my Ronin S gimbal. The rb-create team were as ever on the ball and fantastic to work with. Watch their finished edit and see who came out on top! We were inside due to the torrential rain but it didn’t adversely affect the quality of the football.

IBM Storwize V5000

Last month I went down to IBM’s research and development laboratory which is based at the beautiful Hursley House, just outside Winchester in Hampshire. I was filming as part of a team for World Apart Productions. IBM wanted a video to showcase their Storwize V5000 storage solution. One of my favourite things about my job is working with new people and this was a fun assignment to be part of.
